Consumption of an AFA extract is associated with faster recovery in professional athletes following an ankle injury.
Ankle injuries are common among sportsmen/women and especially professional football players.
The problem for players and coaches is to be able to optimize recovery so that players return to the game as soon as possible.

In an AFA STUDY of Conventional Treatment on Ankle Injuries to Expedite Recovery in Professional Soccer Players, a STUDY with 12x professional football players with ankle injuries with reduced mobility were randomized to the control group receiving conventional treatment and a group receiving conventional treatment and the equivalent of 3.4g of AFA extract per day for 4 weeks.
Conventional treatment consisted of taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs if necessary, immobilization, applying cold pockets to the wound and then rehab. The team doctor assessed the progression of the wound by sonogram on day 0, 1, 7, 14 and 21 days. Karlsson Peterson’s score for ankle function was assessed throughout the treatment period.
Consumption of AFA extract was associated with a significant reduction in pain scores, an improvement in mobility and stability of the joint compared to the control group that received conventional treatment.
The treated group recovered a week before the other players and was able to return to the field earlier, conferring an advantage in managing non-fracture injuries during periods of competition or intense training.
